💥PRESIDENT HAILS FIGHTERS AT HIGHEST BATTLEFIELD ðŸ’¥(DEFENCE)

President Ram Nath Kovind visited the world’s highest battle field, Siachen yesterday. He was accompanied by Chief of the Army Staff, General Bipin Rawat and Lt Gen D Anbu, GOC-in- C, Northern Command. This is the first time by a President in 14 years and only the second time in history.
👉Things you should know about Siachen
Location
It is located in the eastern Karakoram Range in the Himalaya Mountains, just northeast of the point NJ9842 where the Line of Control between India and Pakistan ends.
It forms part of the Leh district of the Ladakh division in the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir.
History of siachen
While the LoC was delineated and accepted by India and Pakistan up to point NJ9842, the glacier was left unmarked.
And Siachen was captured in 1984, by India through Operation Meghdoot on the 76.4 km-long glacier on the Saltoro ridge. The operation continues till date, making it the longest continuing one of its kind in the world. But the area has remained peaceful since the 2003 ceasefire along the Line of Control (LoC) and the Actual Ground Position Line (AGPL) across the Siachen.
Problems associated
The biggest enemy on the glacier has always been the weather. However, the series of recent untimely avalanches on the glacier and the resultant spikes in casualties show that the challenge of changing weather patterns is new.
Also India had attempted to demilitarise the area on the condition of first authenticating the 110-km AGPL, which is the current position on the glacier. But Pakistan refuses, which means that once India vacates the posts, Pakistan may try to occupy them.

💥ISRAEL STRIKES IRAN’S INTEL SITES IN SYRIA ðŸ’¥( IR)

The Israeli military attacked nearly all of Iran’s military installations in Syria in response to an Iranian rocket attack on Israeli positions in the occupied Golan Heights, in the most serious confrontation between the bitter enemies till date.
Israel targets of the strikes, included weapons storage, logistics sites and intelligence centres used by elite Iranian forces
Post-attack Israel said that it’s done with strikes on Iran — for now. But international community fears an escalation. Iran has its finger on the trigger.
👉Role of USA and Russia
But, really, it’s Russian President Vladimir Putin who sits in the hot seat. Where once the US would have been the brake on spikes in Syrian violence, there is a real possibility President Donald Trump’s withdrawal from the 2015 Iran nuclear deal is greasing the wheels towards a wider regional war, where USA has little influence and an expansionist Russia is game for conflicts.
  • Golan Heights is the name of plateau in south western part of Syria. It is annexed by Israel in 1967. Presently 2/3rd area of Golan Heights is under the control of Israel. Remaining part is under control of Syria.

💥70% OF GANGA WILL BE CLEANED BY MAY 2019 ðŸ’¥(ENVIRONMENT)

Union Water Resources Minister Nitin Gadkari said the government will spend Rs. about 10,000 crore this year  on war footing to ensure that at least 70% of the Ganga will be clean by next May.
The minister also rejected the general perception that nothing significant is being done under Namami Gange Programme as not correct. 251 Gross Polluting Industries (GPI) were closed and closure directions have been issued to non-complying GPIs. Real-time monitoring of pollution is being done in 938 industries and 211 main ‘nallas’ which are polluting the river have been identified.
👉 “Cleansing the Ganga”.
Rapidly increasing population, rising standards of living and exponential growth of industrialization and urbanization have exposed water resources, in general, and rivers, in particular, to various forms of degradation. The mighty Ganga is no exception.
As per an official estimate, approximately 12,000 million liters per day (mld) sewage is generated in the Ganga basin; however, the treatment capacity is of only around 4,000 mld and approximately 3000 mld of sewage is discharged into the main stem of the river Ganga from the Class I & II towns located along the banks.
For the first time, cleaning of the River Ganga was initiated by the Rajiv Gandhi Government in 1985 under Ganga Action Plan (GAP). The primary objective of the GAP is to protect the river from the urban wastes.
In 2008, the Manmohan Singh Government declared the Ganga as the national river and announced the formation of the National Ganga River Basin Authority (NGRBA).  These decisions were announced to broad-base the river management efforts. Compared to the GAP, the NGRBA was inclusive and had much more legitimacy as it was headed by Prime Minister and involved the Chief Ministers’ of Ganga River flowing States.

👉NAMAMI Gange

The Narendra Modi-led Government launched Namami Gange Project or Namami Ganga Yojana is an ambitious Union Government Project which integrates the efforts to clean and protect the Ganga River in a comprehensive manner. The project is officially known as Integrated Ganga Conservation Mission project.
In 2016, under the Narendra Modi-led Government, the Ganga cleaning program had got a new push with the establishment of National Council for Rejuvenation, Protection and Management of River Ganga. The National Ganga Council as it is called, replaced the GRBA and headed by the Prime Minister. The mandate of the council is to plan and oversee the implementation of the Namami Gange Programme.
Namami Gange Programme has eight pillars viz., sewage treatment infrastructure, river-surface cleaning, afforestation, industrial effluent monitoring, river-front development, bio-diversity, public awareness and Ganga Gram.

💥INDIA WILL BE A STEADFAST PARTNER OF NEPAL, SAYS MODI- KALLOL BHATTACHERJEE💥( IR)

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said India will be a strong partner of Nepal as Kathmandu consolidates the benefits of democratic rule, indicating the agenda for his May 11-12 trip to the Himalayan country. PM Modi’s visit comes a month after Nepal Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli visited India last month.
The Prime Minister described his visit as a sign of high priority that India attaches to the country. The visit will be the first one by the Prime Minister after Nepal elected a new government under the 2015 constitution.
👉India’s & Nepal
Among all the neighboring countries Nepal comes first in India’s “Neighbourhood First” policy.
As Nepal enters a new era of consolidating gains of democracy and achieving rapid economic growth and development, India will continue to remain a steadfast partner of Nepal to implement its vision of ‘Samriddha Nepal, Sukhi Nepali.
During Oli’s last visit to India, both the leaders had engaged in talks ranging from national defence, trade, agriculture and connectivity. The two leaders had agreed to bolster the bilateral ties of the two countries.
Starting the Arun III hydropower project is the main highlight of the visit. The two Prime Ministers are expected to jointly lay the foundation stone for the 900 Mw Arun III power project. This is the largest hydropower project to be undertaken in Nepal.
Both sides are also likely to discuss the Pancheshwar power project as well.
